Sales tax and 1099s: what applies in 2026
Sales tax is set by states and local governments: rates differ from place to place, and some goods and services aren’t taxed at all, so the rate on your invoice depends on where you work. For the contractors you pay, the IRS reporting threshold for Form 1099-NEC is $2,000 for payments made in 2026 (it was $600 before), and the form goes to the IRS and to the contractor by January 31 of the following year.

What’s Gremio Software?
It’s cloud software for running a trade business, with a separate version for contractors and remodelers, estimating, hair salons, barbershops, spas, physical therapy, therapists, nutrition, personal training, cleaning, tutoring centers and small hotels. What does the plan cost?

Is there anything to install?
Nothing at all. You use it in a web browser on a computer, tablet or cell phone, sign in with your username and see the same up-to-date data everywhere.
Can it help with sales tax and 1099s?
Yes. Each estimate and invoice can carry the sales tax rate for where you work, and payments to every contractor are logged so your 1099-NEC totals are ready when the year closes. The IRS threshold for Form 1099-NEC is $2,000 for payments made in 2026 (previously $600).
My customer list is in Excel. Can I import it?
Sure. Upload a CSV or Excel file with your customers, and pull reports out to Excel any time.
Where does my data live?
On European Union servers, over an encrypted connection, with a backup every day and permission levels for your team.
